Rightturning filter lights just hold up motorists

-

FUNCTIONALITY of intersection traffic lights went straight out the window in Dunedin on a holiday weekend.

When oh when are we going to get traffic lights that are userfriendly and function to traffic movement?

I was in the right lane wishing to do a righthand turn out of St

Andrew St to head north on the oneway system. This should have been quite simple, just before 8am on Saturday.

St Andrew St was totally clear of other vehicles, with not a pedestrian in sight.

We got the green light prompt, but also the red turning light showed up as well, stopping us from making the necessary turn through this greenlight phase.

This happened again through the second phase of lights, leaving us all stranded.

On the next occurrence of malfunction of these lights, the leading driver took the initiative to ignore the stuffup and that allowed the line of backedup traffic to move on its way.

It escapes me that these things happen as regularly as they do.

Cycleways and lines

WHY couldn’t the New Zealand Transport Agency and the Dunedin City Council not see that widening the footpaths slightly and putting a line dividing pedestrians and cyclists would be better than this fiasco. Australia does it and it works well.

Also, if a company demands on its billing that you must pay a fee, takes your money, and doesn’t provide the service for which it was taken, is that not fraud?

I’m seriously worried about the looming linefee increases from Aurora and parent, the DCC, especially when it has charged power consumers for years and not done the maintenance.

Speedy scooters

BLIMEY . . . ‘‘Lime’’ escooters have landed in Christchurch and Auckland.

We’d better alert Hilary Calvert. If these twowheel rockets ever get away in our city she’ll have to change her ODT column from ‘‘Both Sides Now’’ to include the ‘‘Footpaths’’ too.

Now, where on earth are the poor old pedestrians going to cower with twowheeled assassins thundering along at 27kmh?
