Best for last at Forbury Park

- JONNY TURNER

FORBURY Park punters will have to wait patiently to see tonight’s best race.

The last event on the sevenrace card features a highly competitive middlegrade field.

Rocknroll Magic drops significantly in class after contesting the Tuapeka Cup at the same track on Sunday.

The horse disappointed with seventh in that race, but he will not have to contend with classy 4yrold Pat’s Delight tonight.

‘‘He was a bit disappointing . . . I was hoping he was going to kick on a bit better than he did,’’ trainerdriver Jonny Cox said.

‘‘It is a big drop in grade for him in this race, and if he was at his best he would be hard to beat.

‘‘If he could show the form he did in his first start back in at Winton, they wouldn’t be able to catch him.’’

Rocknroll Magic ran a good fourth at Winton in his first run this campaign.

He has gone on to race some of the South Island’s classiest pacers, including the exceptionally talented Turn It Up, in his three subsequent starts.

There is a big chance the spoils from the last race will return to Canterbury with Cox.

His partner, Kimberly Butt, drives Forbury Park specialist and leading chance Glenisthebettor in the race.

Roxburgh trainers Geoff and Jude Knight have a strong hand in the race with Archman and Ferritts Sister.

Butt has the leading chance in the preceding race with Eraser.

The Terry and Glenys Chmieltrained trotter went a good race for third at Sunday’s meeting.

Former smart juvenile Springbank Lachie looks the hardest for Eraser to beat. The Phil Williamsontrained trotter will get few better opportunities to return to the winner’s circle.
