Waiareka

A GOOD yarding was offered at this week’s Waiareka stock sale, considerin­g it was after a long weekend.

Hoggets made up the bulk of the numbers. Heavyweigh­ts were again back but better grading hoggets held their own while ewes eased slightly.

Only a small number of cattle was yarded.

Top hoggets, $150$181; medium, $124$147; heavy ewes, $142$154; medium, $122$140; lighter, $90; 2tooths, $100; rams, $70.

Store cattle — yearling HerefordFr­iesian steers, 187kg at $530; yearling HerefordFr­iesian heifers, 175kg183kg at $520$530.

Balclutha

A SMALLER yarding of prime sheep was offered this week. Prime hoggets sold well, to good demand. Prime ewe sales were on par with recent weeks, and heavy ewes continued to sell well. A small yarding of store sheep was offered, including a small number of ewes and lambs all counted, which sold well. A store cattle sale is scheduled for November 7.

Prime lambs: heavy, $170$180; medium, $150$160; light, $125$135. Prime ewes: heavy, $140$145; medium, $125$135; light, $100$120. Lower condition ewes: $50$70. Prime rams: heavy, $100; medium, $70.

Store sheep —

Shorn store lambs: medium, $52. Ewes and lambs all counted: $107.
