A 13YEAROLD secondary school pupil has shown she is ‘‘resilient and resourceful’’ after being confronted by a man who masturbated in front of her in Logan Park.

The girl was walking to Logan Park High School about 9.30am yesterday, when a man, described as about 30 years old, bald and of slim to medium build, exposed himself and started masturbating outside Tennis Otago.

Logan Park High School coprincipal Kristan Mouat said the girl ran from the scene and notified staff at the school.

Police launched a major search for the offender but failed to find him, Police said.

Inquiries were continuing.

Ms Mouat said police officers dealing with the incident sounded reasonably confident they would catch the offender because they had quite a lot of information from the pupil.

Despite the ordeal, the pupil was in good spirits, she said.

‘‘She’s fine. She’s resilient and resourceful and she feels supported and has spoken to the people that she needs to.’’

The school would be speaking to police to gain advice on the best course of action.

Police are also investigating reports a man ‘‘touched himself inappropriately’’ beside a female in the Dunedin Public Library on Thursday afternoon.

Police said there was no indication the incidents appeared linked at this stage.
