QueenstownOmakau game washed out

HEAVY rain throughout the district caused the game at Omakau between home side Blacks Hill and Queenstown Ballarat to be abandoned, so there were only two senior games played in the Vincent competition on Saturday.

At Luggate, Albion batted first and got through to 187 off its allotted overs. Tim Cotter topscored with 57 and veteran Corey Blair made 44. Sukhdev Sandhu, with two for 18, and Ritender Singh, taking two for 24, were the best of the bowlers.

In reply Cromwell fell 32 runs short, on 155. Sandhu completed a fine double, scoring 56, while Alex Gunson on 32 was the only other batsman to offer much support. Sean Webber (three for 21), Caleb Nicol (two for 27), and Tom Myles (two for 23) did most of the damage for the home side.

Batting first at the Events Centre, Queenstown Wakatipu scored 168 for the loss of eight wickets. Om Alva topscored with 35, ably supported by Lachie Marshall (34) and Jordan Gibbons (25).

Richard Hollows, with three for 29, and Willie Miller, three for 30, had the young Wakatipu side battling hard to post a competitive total against Maniototo.

In reply, the visitors got through to end on 170 for five off 39 overs.

Otago Country Hawke Cup captain James Pyle has found a little form at the right time, batting through the innings to finish on 65 not out, including a 94run opening partnership with Sam Pringle (45), while Angus Gibb chipped in with a handy 21 runs. Seth Mawhinney, with two for 34, was the most successful of the home team’s bowlers.
