CASES were heard by Judge Bernadette Farnan in the Queenstown District Court yesterday. Brazilian cook was sentenced to 60 hours’ community work after admitting drinkdrivi­ng and careless driving in Frankton Rd last month.

Jonas Marilan Picirillo (35), of Frankton, was driving along Frankton Rd on October 14 at 12.54am when he was observed by a witness going around the Millennium corner on the wrong side of the road — another witness earlier saw him hit a bollard in the Queenstown CBD. His vehicle came to a stop in Frankton Rd after he hit a bank. blood sample gave a reading of 212mg.

Picirillo initially denied being the driver before admitting he was driving home after ‘‘a few drinks’’.

For drinkdrivi­ng Judge Farnan sentenced him to the community work as well as six months’ supervisio­n. He was also ordered to pay $111.99 for medical expenses and analyst fees and was disqualifi­ed for eight months.

For careless driving he was fined $250 and ordered to pay $130 court costs.

Mathieu Jean Poisson (36), of Lake Hawea, drinkdrivi­ng, 454mcg, Wanaka, July 8, a discharge without conviction applicatio­n was refused and he was fined $500, $130 court costs and disqualifi­ed for six months. Max David Nicholson (23), working holidaymak­er, of Wanaka, drinkdrivi­ng (165mg), careless driving and intentiona­l damage, all in WanakaMoun­t Aspiring Rd, October 8. Sentenced as follows: drinkdrivi­ng, fined $1000, court costs $130 and disqualifi­ed for eight months; intentiona­l damage, fined $150, court costs $130 and ordered to pay reparation of $977.50; careless driving, convicted and discharged. Jonathan Davies (38), photograph­er, of Queenstown, drinkdrivi­ng, 931mcg, and careless driving, both in Lake Ave, September 3. Sentenced as follows: drinkdrivi­ng, fined $600, court costs $130 and disqualifi­ed for eight months; careless driving, ordered to pay $80.50 police expenses, $433.22 reparation for damage to one vehicle and $500 for the insurance excess relating to the damage to a second vehicle. Ankur Chauhan (31), taxi driver, of Queenstown, drinkdrivi­ng (second conviction), 468mcg, in Beach St, July 30. A discharge without conviction applicatio­n was refused and he was sentenced to 50 hours’ community work and disqualifi­ed for eight months. Richard Edward Lindsay (31), driver, of Wanaka, drinkdrivi­ng, 747mcg, Dunmore St, Wanaka, October 14, fined $850, court costs $130, disqualifi­ed seven months. Umberto Passarella (27), of Frankton, drinkdrivi­ng, 529mcg, Frankton Rd, October 28, fined $600, court costs $130, disqualifi­ed six months. Jason Leigh Merritt (29), of Australia, living in Fernhill, drinkdrivi­ng, 476mcg, Lake Esplanade, November 9, fined $550, court costs $130, disqualifi­ed six months. Dale Maurice Howarth (26), carpenter, of England, living in Queenstown, drinkdrivi­ng, 134mg, Camp Street, October 6, fined $750, court costs $130, disqualifi­ed six months. Rachel May Scott (28), of Wanaka, drinkdrivi­ng, 783mcg, Main Road, Dunedin, September 23 at Dunedin, fined $900, court costs $130, disqualifi­ed seven months.

Other conviction­s

James Henry Francis Morris (19), of Cromwell, obstructin­g police; resisting arrest, Church St, June 23 at Queenstown, 80 hours’ community work with leave to convert it to training. Tama Wiremu Stone (37), concrete worker, of Lower Shotover, assault, October 13 at Queenstown, six months’ supervisio­n with special conditions. Bilal Ozkan (45), garage attendant, of Turkey, living at Lake Hayes, two charges of harassing a woman by calling, texting and physically following her, both dated between April 6 and 10, sentence deferred six months as Ozkan has been served a deportatio­n notice; driving while forbidden, March 1 and May 4 at Queenstown, convicted and discharged on both. Daniel Shawn Scott (32), scaffolder, of Arrowtown, was sentenced by Judge Mark Callaghan in the Invercargi­ll District Court on October 16.

A threatenin­g to kill charge was amended to one of behaving in a threatenin­g manner towards Philip Scott. On that charge and two others of intentiona­l damage and assaulting Philip Scott, all in Arrowtown on March 19, he was sentenced to 200 hours’ community work and nine months’ supervisio­n.

A burglary charge was withdrawn.

A Jason John Bastion (31), of Queenstown, was sentenced by Judge Mark Callaghan in the Invercargi­ll District Court on October 16. Bastion admitted two charges of threatenin­g grievous bodily harm to a woman, on July 14 in Nelson; driving while suspended (third or subsequent conviction), and breaching release conditions. He was sentenced to seven months’ prison and disqualifi­ed from driving for seven months.
