Final ODI: desert deserted as rain reigns

-

DUBAI: Rain has denied both Pakistan and New Zealand a chance to wrap up their oneday international series victory, as their Dubai decider was abandoned.

Babar Azam’s 92 underpinned Pakistan’s total of 279 for eight after it had won the toss.

Fakhar Zaman and Haris Sohail chipped in with useful contributions of 65 and 60 respectively.

Lockie Ferguson’s first international fivewicket haul checked Pakistan’s progress, and the Black Caps reached 35 for one wicket from 6.5 overs in their reply before the heavens opened.

The inclement weather ultimately had the final say, ensuring the threematch series in the United Arab Emirates was drawn with one win apiece.

New Zealand won the first match by 47 runs, before Pakistan levelled the series with a sixwicket win.

A sparkling knock of 92 from Shikhar Dhawan helped India get over the early blow of losing skipper Rohit Sharma and beat West Indies by six wickets in the

Athird twenty20 international in Chennai yesterday to complete a 30 sweep of the series.

Playing for pride after losing the first two matches, West Indies skipper Carlos Brathwaite chose to bat and the tourists managed 181 for three in their 20 overs, aided by Nicholas Pooran’s unbeaten 53 and a measured 43 not out from Darren Bravo.

A recordbreaking partnership between South African centurions Faf du Plessis and David Miller set up a 40run win over Australia in Hobart on Sunday night, clinching the oneday international series.

The Proteas’ mammoth 320 for five proved out of reach for Australia despite a determined 106 from veteran Shaun Marsh.

Ainnings in a century stand with allrounder Marcus Stoinis (63) after Australia were left wobbling at 339 in the 11th over.

But when he fell in the 42nd over, his side’s chances slid with him, and Australia finished on 280 for nine.
