Reassurance there is no place for hate speech

-

I WRITE to reassure those members of the St Matthew’s Anglican Church who find the Rev Stu Crosson’s attitude towards gay people and the language he chooses to use (ODT, 17.11.18) abhorrent, that there are many Christian churches, including my own Mornington Methodist Church, which base themselves on the Gospel of a Jesus who preached absolute love and respect for one’s neighbour (every neighbour, regardless of ethnicity, status or sexual orientation).

Brutal and demeaning language, like the attitude it expresses, should have no place in a world already full enough of such hatespeech, let alone in any community that claims the name of Christian. Colin Gibson

Central airport

WHILE there is no easy solution to the secondary airport challenge for Queenstown, Wanaka and Central Otago, there is a viable option.

The Government should consider a new more direct road link between Dunedin Airport and Frankton, saving time and convenience for travellers.

By taking out a lot of the lengthy, indirect routes on this existing road — that were developed in the horse and cart days for simple modes of transport — the time savings would be significant.

The distance as the crow flies between Dunedin Airport and Queenstown Airport is about 150km. If a more direct road was built by the Government, a bus could arrive at its destination in two hours.

The cost would certainly be significant to build new roads.

However, impact on the Queenstown/Central Otago area would be less, and tourism for Dunedin and coastal Otago would significantly increase.

The growth in tourism in New Zealand will continue at a significant pace.

With tourism being this country’s biggest earner, the time to consider all options is now. A. Anderson
