Time for cartoonist to show more understanding

-

WELL done Garrick Tremain for trotting out a tedious, complete lack of understanding of what it is to be in front of a classroom in 2018.

Your cartoon, in an attempt to take an ironic swipe at teachers and their supposed lack of application to work, is as far off the mark as if I attempted to recreate the Mona Lisa, blind and with my hands tied behind my back, painting with my toes.

I suspect you are trying to apply your understanding and experience of being at school in your day and trying to apply that to today.

You are totally failing to understand the issues faced by teachers in classrooms across Otago and the rest of the country. We need so much more support and resources now than ever before to help the students in front of us.

And believe me, it is never through a lack of applying ourselves to our students and the education system that we find ourselves considering strike action.

Get out there, people, and talk to teachers about what is really at stake here. Cat Hunter

Portobello confusion

WHY is the road which goes from Andersons Bay Rd to Portsmouth Dr (near the BP) named Portobello Rd?

Driving down that road toward Portsmouth Dr, it is not possible to turn into Portobello Rd and access the beginning of the peninsula. One has to turn left and has no opportunity for a few kilometres to do a uturn back toward the ‘‘real’’ Portobello Rd.

This must be very confusing for visitors and immensely frustrating for anyone driving down the road in the hope of going toward Portobello.

Either change the name or change the road layout so people can turn right toward the actual Portobello Rd.

I am lucky to be a cyclist, so I can turn right. Motor vehicles cannot. This is absolute stupidity. Why not rename the road ‘‘Deception Ave’’ or ‘‘Confusion Guaranteed Dr’’. At least that would provide some clarity. Anna Hurley
