Paper bags an ideal solution for doggy doos

-

SOME time ago, I started using paper sandwich bags and paper towels to pick up what my dog left behind. Simply pick up with the paper towel and pop in the paper bag. This is usually very effective, but I do always carry a couple of used bread bags in case of rain.

I cannot imagine how this could work in the council dispensers but it is an easy solution for individuals not wanting to use plastic but wanting to keep our streets clean and not break any dog owner requirements.

The problem is that I have been unable to find paper bags sold in supermarkets. I bought mine online from a catering wholesaler at the cost of $23 per 1000 bags (2.3 cents each). They are sold in lesser amounts for a slightly higher price.

Come on, supermarkets, start selling paper bags in the pet aisle.

Marriage

A LITTLE knowledge is a dangerous thing, as the adage says, and as your correspondent Bill Southworth (ODT, 1.12.18) illustrates. The levitical laws, which I guess he found on the internet, are clearly embedded in the Jewish culture of the times. Your columnist Civis is better informed, in that they have a highergrade cherrypicker.

But traditional religious understandings of marriage derive not simply from a few random biblical verses, but from positive, pervasive and profound teaching about what it means to be human. The union of male and female is a sacrament of our being made in the image of God, and is designed to fulfil our natures, teach us to live with difference, and so that we live fruitful lives.

It doesn’t always work that way, because the world is fallen, but some people still think it’s worth striving for. Gregory Tanner
