Waiareka sale
TRUCKS rolled in to the Waiareka saleyards this week mostly for the special spring cattle sale held in conjunction with the weekly sale, although sheep numbers were also solid.
Nearly 700 head of quality cattle were yarded. HerefordFriesian yearlings made up most of the numbers, with a handful of 2yearolds and the remainder being calves.
Spring lambs were good quality but prices eased due to processor premiums coming off. Ewes sold well and two pens of ewes with lambs at foot attracted good interest.
Top prime spring lambs, $147$156; medium, $131$144; lighter, $114$129; top hoggets, $136$150; heavy ewes, $195; medium, $141$166; lighter, $100$131; ewes with lambs at foot, $110$111 all counted; rams, $51$80.

Balclutha stock sale
A smaller yarding of prime lambs was offered this week, but they continued to sell very well. Prime ewes dropped in price slightly but demand was good. A reasonable yarding of store lambs sold very well, reflecting a strong market. No cattle were offered this week, but cattle are expected at next week’s sale. Prices were. — Prime sheep —
