A BRITISH man living in Wanaka has been convicted and discharged after importing class Bcontrolled GHB into the country.

Phillip David Green (35), hotel maintenance worker, appeared for sentencing before Judge Bernadette Farnan in the Queenstown District Court yesterday.

He admitted a charge of importing GHB on or before September 26, in Wanaka.

GHB, or Gamma Hydroxybutyric acid, is commonly known in New Zealand as fantasy. It has a street value in New Zealand of $3000 a litre.

Prosecuting Sergeant Ian Collin said a mail stop was placed on Green’s address earlier that month.

A parcel addressed to the defendant was intercepted and found to contain three 500ml bottles of a liquid that was tested and found to be GHB. The parcel also contained a clinical letter from a doctor in the United Kingdom.

Sgt Collin said the defendant was aware the drug was illegal in New Zealand, but used it as medication for narcolepsy, a sleeping disorder.

His medical history was welldocumented, and had been confirmed by local medical authorities.

Green intends to return home to the United Kingdom next week. damage, on May 27, in the township.

The summary of facts stated the defendant had been drinking when he picked up a sharp stone and scratched the panelling and windows of the victim’s car while it was parked at her address.

He was angry at the victim, who was his father’s new partner, and upset at the sale of the home in which he had been raised.

He had paid $400 in reparation to the victim, written her a letter of apology, and served 40 hours’ voluntary community work.
