Hunt on for Voltman’s new secret identity

- ADRIAN SECONI

FANCY slipping on a cumbersome suit and stumbling your way through the crowds this summer?

Well, the Otago Cricket Association has just the job for you.

It is looking for a new person to stuff inside the Voltman suit.

It will be hot, awkward and you will have to put up with a lot of flak in your role as mascot. But fear not — you will be behind a mask, so noone need know who you are.

The team at Otago Cricket is looking for someone energetic and enthusiastic, and you will get bonus points if can do the floss. (Once again, noone will recognise you — you are behind a giant mask.)

If the games are not going well for Otago, that is not a problem either — your field of vision will most likely be severely impaired.

You will be enormously popular with the kids until you step on one of the little rascals — err, darlings.

If that happens, then yell out ‘‘googly!’’ and quickly leave while everyone is looking the other way.

The life of a mascot, eh?

The Voltman originated during the Super Max days in the 1990s. He was clad in a skintight suit and yellow cap and charged — get it — around with a lightning bolt.

The mascot disappeared during the early 2000s, but made a comeback when twenty20 emerged.

He is much less mobile now, and the lightning bolt has bolted.

The successful applicant will need to be available for the Volts’ home twenty20 fixtures. Good luck!
