Jimmy Richter picks up win for Hoffman

- JONNY TURNER

FORBURY Park faithful have enjoyed instant success with Jimmy Richter, who ran to an easy victory at the track last night.

The pacer barely had to be asked for an effort by driver Brad Williamson when he won race 5 by almost three lengths.

Jimmy Richter was having just his second start for Waikouaiti trainer Amber Hoffman.

The pacer is raced by former Forbury Park Trotting Club President and track crash crew member Aaron Johnston.

Rodney Tait and Mark Scully also race the Auckland Reactor 4yrold.

They took over racing the horse earlier this month on the recommendation of his former trainer, Terry Chmiel.

‘‘Terry said his owner had a lot of young horses to concentrate on and the horse might be suited racing down south,’’ said Hoffman.

‘‘He has a lot to learn, even in training — sometimes he just doesn’t know when it is time to go.

‘‘He can also be a bit rocky in his gait.’’

If Jimmy Richter is able to get more streetwise, he could win more races, Hoffman suggested.

‘‘He is probably not a superstar, but he can win a couple more races.

‘‘He just has so much to learn.’’

Hoffman also produced the third placegetter in race 5, Tartan Roxy.

The trainer also had the winner of race 7, Tin Roof Blues, in her care this week.

The pacer had been left to enjoy some beach training by trainer Chris McDowall leading into last night’s victory.

‘‘She has always had the ability, but keeping her sound has been a battle,’’ McDowall said.

‘‘She doesn’t take a lot of work, so I thought she could stay down here and enjoy the beach.’’

McDowall was in the sulky when the consistent mare gained a deserved win.

Despite producing sound fifth and second placings in her last two starts at the track, the pacer was let go by punters and won at odds of nearly 30toone.

Kohika breederownertrainer Noel Taylor was rewarded for a sevenyear wait when Hold On Arizona won race 1 in style.

After going close to winning on several occasions, including running second in her last two starts, the 7yrold finally had her first win at Forbury Park last night.

Hold On Arizona cleared out to win by more than five lengths over Bullys Princess and Star Ruler.
