Lady worries supersport boys
THERE is a strong southern challenge going into this weekend’s first round of the New Zealand Supersport 600 Championship and it’s headed by Kiwi fast lady Avalon Biddle.
The former European woman’s motorcycle champion, who now lives in Canterbury, says she is aiming to ‘‘better my third position finish from last year and win some more races’’.
The fiveround, 15race series opens at Mike Pero Motorsport Park in Christchurch, followed by round two at Levels, in Timaru, next weekend.
‘‘It is very different for me to be going into 2019 as a title favourite because in other years people have written me off for the championship as I lacked consistency,’’ Biddle (26) said yesterday.
‘‘I was fast at some circuits and not fast at others.
‘‘This year I feel much stronger physically, have a good feeling with my MTF Finance Kawasaki ZX6R, and I think it is a good thing the boys are a little worried.’’
She regards North Islanders Toby Summers (Kawasaki) and Rogan Chandler (Yamaha) as her main threats, but Christchurch rider Dale Finch, on the Wanakabased Helicraft Racing MV Agusta, Tapanui’s Seth Devereux (Triumph) and Invercargill’s John Crawford (Suzuki) are all podium prospects in what is shaping up to be the closest title chase in many years.
‘‘Winning the title will mean being consistent at every circuit and always finishing inside the top four,’’ said Biddle.
