North East Valley 98 lost to Green Island 99 for two
Green Island has cemented its place at the top of the Declaration Cup standings with a comprehensive eightwicket win against North East Valley at Sunnyvale on Saturday.
Allrounder Geordie Scott set up the victory with an impressive bowling spell.
The rightarm medium pacer snared six for 30 to help dismiss North East Valley for just 98.
Hunter Kindley topscored for Valley with 32, while Llew Johnson and New Zealand indoor cricket representative Corey Perrett added 21 each in an otherwise dismal scoreboard.
Former Australian under19 captain Tom Beaton blasted 47 from 32 deliveries to ensure the chase was a short one. He is the secondleading scorer in the Declaration Cup with 159 runs at an average of 53.
Nathan Watt carried his bat with an undefeated 28 to help seal the win.
Green Island has four wins from four games in the format, and enjoys a 24point lead over Valley, who is in second place with 48 points.
Albion 298 for seven declared drew with Taieri 141 for eight
Taieri tailenders Clint Hayward and Warren Barnes held firm for the best part of 10 overs to deny Albion a win at Brooklands.
Albion posted a formidable total of 298 for seven declared. Victory looked assured when Taieri had slumped to 119 for eight.
But Hayward and Barnes thwarted Albion with some admirable stonewalling at the end of the innings.
Hayward scored 11 not out from 37 deliveries, and Barnes was resolute. The Otago fast bowler scored three not out from 28 deliveries.
Earlier, Riley Dixon had shown the way with 16 from 75 balls to help soak up an enormous amount of time.
Albion did not get the result it was after, but dominated the match. Opener Daniel Duke struck 71 from 52 balls in a fluent knock.
Cameron Elliott top scored with 73 not out.
Volts opener Hamish Rutherford got some time in the middle as well. He scored 36 from 55 balls, and Jack Coleman ground out 37 from 76 deliveries.
It was a good effort by Albion against a quality attack which included Otago duo Barnes and Jack Hunter.
CarisbrookDunedin 183 beat Kaikorai 121
CarisbrookDunedin recovered from 21 for three to post what proved to be a winning score against Kaikorai at Bishopscourt.
The visitors lost their top three inside the first 10 overs, but a quality 50 from Otago backup wicketkeeper Max Chu and 40 from Ollie Curtis helped the Carisbrook side avoid further calamity.
Jack Pryde chipped in with 28, and the final score of 183 was more than competitive.
The wickets were shared around, with five Kaikorai bowlers picking up two apiece.
Kaikorai may have been guilty of going too hard at the target. There was still plenty of time left in the day when it was eventually dismissed for 121.
Kurt Johnston shredded the middle order with four for 36, and Richard Sillars took three for 29.
Opener Josh Gain topscored with 37 from 32. He was patient early in his innings, but the boundaries came in a flurry just before he was caught and bowled.
