Scooter chaos comes to the Dunedin streets

-

WE went into town this afternoon and were confronted by people riding the Lime scooters on the footpaths.

You cannot hear them coming up behind you, and if you stepped to one side while walking on the footpaths, you would be hit by them.

Several of them did not even have the decency to slow down they were zipping in and out of people. One of them did not even stop at the traffic lights — he went out on to the road against a red light as traffic was not coming the other way while pedestrians were waiting at the Barnes dance.

I hate to think what it will be like when there is one or more cruise ships in with all the extra pedestrian traffic and these Lime scooters allowed on the footpaths.

Surely they should be made to go on the roads.

What has happened to Dunedin when you cannot even go into town and shop safely?

Helicopter noise

SO Queenstown commissioners Rachel Dimery and Wendy Baker think it’s OK to allow billionaire Tim Roberts to inflict shattering noise on his neighbours four times a day because he’s too selfish to keep his helicopter at the airport.

Perhaps Dimery and Baker would feel different if the helicopter was landing next door to their homes.

Hopefully, the Environment Court will outlaw this naked aggression on the right of New Zealanders to peace and quiet in residential neighbourhoods.

It would be a tragic commentary on the corruption of our society by the rich if they are now allowed to pollute any neighbourhood with the noise of their helicopters.
