Casaquinman looking strong

- JONNY TURNER

WOODVILLE sprinter Casaquinman looks the horse to beat in the open 1000m sprint at Riccarton tomorrow.

The Shane Browntrained galloper faces a massive drop in class after chasing home Enzo’s Lad in the group 1 Telegraph at Trentham in his last start.

Brown said tomorrow’s 1000m open handicap event gave him the perfect opportunity for a oneoff Riccarton raid.

Casaquinman was a standout performer in his last trip across Cook Strait for the New Zealand Cup carnival.

The galloper won the PegasusStakes before running fourth in the Stewards Stakes in November.

Casaquinman has an unbeaten record over 1000m in the event.‘‘He is quite a good horse on a straight five or a straight six furlong course,’’ Brown said.

‘‘Without being derogatory, I thought this would be a softer sort of option for him.’’

Casaquinman will clash with topweight and fellow 1000m specialist Morse Code tomorrow.

He also lines up against quality mares Vendima, Morweka and Disturbance.
