Dunedin District Court

-

CANNABIS offending discovered when police were at his address on an unrelated matter resulted in community work and supervision for a 22yearold man who appeared in the Dunedin District Court yesterday.

Jacob Ron Hall, of Dunedin, had been convicted of cultivating cannabis, possessing a pipe for consuming cannabis, possessing cannabis and possessing cannabis seeds, on August 25. He had pleaded guilty.

The police summary said Hall admitted growing cannabis plants in the room next to his bedroom.

There were 19 cannabis plants and seven small cannabis seedlings. The room’s walls were lined with silver paper. There were lamps to provide light for the plants, a heater and a watering can.

Hall also had three bongs, 16g of ‘‘wet’’ cannabis and 230 cannabis seeds.

He said the cultivation was for his personal use.

Judge Michael Turner imposed an overall sentence of 80 hours’ community work and 12 months’ supervision.

In addition, Hall’s unpaid fines of $2199 were replaced with 100 hours’ community work (cumulative, making the total number of hours 180).
