Educating youth
Replying to a deputation which waited on him at Wellington with suggestions as to the methods for dealing with social evil, the Acting Prime Minister made an important statement, in which he outlines a scheme for the future training of Senior Cadets and Territorials. The Minister said that the root of the matter referred to by the deputation could be got at only by the proper training of the young. The new scheme had for its object the training of Senior Cadets in the ideals of good citizenship. Lecturettes will be given on hygiene, and he hoped that sex hygiene might be included, though they must not begin to teach that too soon. They wished to promote all that pertained to physical health and moral development. His idea was to start at the beginning and train boys and girls to resist temptation. The
Minister of Education, who was present, said he was heart and soul in agreement with the new scheme. He would support it, no matter what the consequences, political or otherwise.
