Police dog tracks driver

A POLICE dog tracked a drunk teenage driver nearly 4km after he crashed in Dunedin on Sunday morning and fled the scene.

Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen, of Dunedin, said the 19yearold driver crashed his ute into a power pole in Leith Valley about 4am.

He and his passenger fled but were tracked by a Dunedin dog unit and caught 3.8km from the crash site.

The driver recorded an excess breathalcohol reading and would be charged.
