Notable Dunedin figure Graham Crombie dies
LEADING Dunedin figure Graham Crombie died yesterday.
Mr Crombie served on numerous boards, companies and organisations in Otago and nationally. He was 55.
Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull last night said he had a reputation for revitalising and lifting the performance of the organisations he worked in, and his experience, expertise and guidance would be sorely missed.
‘‘Graham was appointed as a director of Dunedin City Holdings Ltd in 2012 and was appointed as chairman in 2013.
‘‘He led DCHL through some challenging periods, but never shrank from those challenges.
‘‘I am grateful for the experience, expertise and oversight Graham brought to DCHL and its subsidiaries.’’
He was a council appointee to the Otago Museum Trust Board in 2010 and chaired the board since 2011.
Mr Crombie was also a deputy commissioner on the Southern District Health Board.
Educated at Bayfield High School, Mr Crombie studied accounting at the University of Otago before joining Dunedin firm Lawrence Anderson Buddle.
Mr Crombie had 30 years’ experience specialising in audit and consulting, including at Polson Higgs in Dunedin where he was chief executive and a partner.
He was also an associate member of the Commerce Commission and a director of Surf Life Saving New Zealand.
