Judkins wins junior series

CALLUM Judkins has emerged as a convincing winner of the 2018 Greg Turner Junior Order of Merit series, scoring an average of 292.8 points for the listed tournament­s.

Judkins (18) had a stellar year in 2018, winning the North Otago match play event and being named at No 2 in the men’s team for the Toro interprovi­ncial in Christchur­ch.

The Queenstown­based golfer finished over 80 points ahead of Jacob Bellamy (Port Chalmers) in the under19 section, with Jack Turner (Queenstown) in third.

Hayden Robertson (Taieri Lakes) finished in fourth place, ahead of the Eagles Golfing Society under17 junior of the year Parker Aluesi (St Clair).

Queenstown juniors continued to dominate the junior event, with Noah Novacek taking the honours in the under14 division.

Judkins received a voucher valued at $750 for his win, which can be spent on travel, tourna ment fees and coaching, while Bellamy was awarded a $400 voucher.

Other vouchers went to Turner ($350), Robertson ($250) and Aluesi ($200), while Novacek gets a $250 voucher for his under14 win.

The final places were decided after finals weekend, which was played over 18 holes at Millbrook on Saturday and Cromwell on Sunday.

Judkins went into the weekend with a healthy lead overall and scored 74 and 76 to finish fifth last weekend.

Bellamy shot 72 and 74 to take the honours ahead of Toro women’s representa­tive Sumin Kang with 75 and 72.

Turner came in third (148) with Danielle Bailer (148), while Judkins and Novacek both finished on 150.

Vouchers were also awarded for the finals weekend, with Bellamy taking home $350 and Kang’s second worth $250, while Turner and Bailey each received a $175 voucher.
