Lowerorder rescue job carries North East Valley

Green Island 218 for nine lost to North East Valley 220 for seven

New Zealand indoor cricket representative Corey Perrett and Bailey AndrewsKennedy put on an unbroken stand of 79 to rip victory away from Green Island at Sunnyvale on Saturday.

Green Island posted a middling total of 218 for nine, but took firm control of the oneday fixture when they picked up two wickets in the 38th over, leaving North East Valley’s innings in tatters at 141 for seven.

But Perrett counterattacked with 48 from 37 deliveries and AndrewsKennedy added 24 from 26 to help win the game by three wickets, with two overs to spare.

AndrewsKennedy played a starring role with the ball as well. He claimed four for 43 from his 10 overs.

His wickets were all toporder batsman, including the dangerous Mark Joyce.

Joyce had played patiently, and got through 47 before he was bowled. The allrounder was the pick of the Green Island bowlers as well, with two for 27 from nine overs.

Veteran seamer Dion Lobb added a valuable 44 not out, and Hamish Drummond (30) and Joel Meade (31) made solid contributions to Green Island’s total.

Kaikorai 91 lost to Carisbrook-Dunedin 95 for five

CarisbrookDunedin went to the top of the standings in the oneday competition with a fivewicket win against Kaikorai at Bishopscourt.

The Dogs bumped Green Island down a spot after securing victory in a lowscoring fixture.

Seamer Kurt Johnston took four for 23 from 10 overs in a standout performance. His efforts helped dismiss Kaikorai for a pitiful 91.

Steven Newey (three for 21) and Patrick Arnold (two for 14) made major contributions as well.

Otago batsman Josh Finnie topscored with 23, while

Fergus Ellis (17) and Michael Rippon (16) were the only two other Kaikorai batsmen to reach double figures.

Max Chu grabbed four catches, then scored 19 at the top in a wobbly chase. Richard Sillars (22 not out) and Henry Workman (36 not out) combined to get the job done for CarisbrookDunedin, but not before five wickets had tumbled.

Jeremy Smith took three of them and Joseph Gregan the other two.
