On footpath or road, scooters are putting us at risk
THE danger to citizens of Dunedin from the improper use of Lime scooters is often the subject of letters to the editor.
Here is another example which involved the blatant disregard for road rules and the safety of pedestrians. On crossing the intersection of lower
Stuart St and Moray Pl, on the diagonal, three scooters approached up Stuart St, on the road.
Before I had completed my crossing, they drove straight through the red light, nearly colliding with me, then proceeded up Stuart St towards the Octagon, on the footpath, at considerable speed.
This practice of moving from road to footpath at intersections, avoiding the need to stop, is illegal and dangerous.
The problem is only going to become worse when university students are back. Then we will have to contend with outofcontrol skateboarders on George St as well as Lime scooters and advertising billboards taking half of the footpath.
The council does not have a mandate to sell half of our footpaths to commercial advertising, nor does it have any authority to allow a company like Lime to put citizens at risk.

Stadium finances
I, LIKE Dr Hamlin (ODT, 16.2.19), would like to see the true financial position regarding the stadium.
We need the total income earned minus the expenses incurred, including the cost of interest on the capital investment from the council’s (ratepayers’) point of view.
And I don’t mean parts of the information that have been purposely obscured by use of various holding companies which are owned by the council anyway.
This information must be provided in an open and transparent way for all to see, especially with the harbour basin proposal likely to follow a similar trajectory and be funded by ratepayers. Lindsay Brown
