Women’s organisation meets
A meeting of the recently formed Women’s Citizen Association — a body that was organised last year for the promotion of interest by women in civic problems — was held in the Overseas Club last evening. Miss Isitt presided
over a large attendance. The election of officers for the coming year resulted as follows: President, Miss Mackenzie; secretary, Mrs Williams; treasurer. Mrs W. A. Scott; committeeMesdames C. E. Statham, Jas. Begg, T. Thomson, Donald Reid, Lindo Ferguson, Misses Dalziel, Morris, De Beer, and Isitt.
A short discussion took place on a matter that has already been before the association, the effecting of an improvement in the class of pictures occasionally to be seen at the various picture theatres, but finality was not reached in this matter, and it will be further considered at a later date. The question of women police was also introduced, and fully discussed, the following resolution being carried: ‘‘That all women’s societies in Dunedin be requested to write to the National Council of Women urging it to arrange a deputation to the Minister of Justice in Wellington at the earliest possible date, to lay before him the need for the formation of a body of women police in New Zealand, especially in view of the
unsettled conditions likely to arise from the termination of the war.’’ Two delegates were appointed to attend the Women’s National Council.
