Robyn Buis
(Robyn Buis Design)
THE senior interior designer and owner of Robyn Buis Design, Robyn has over 20 years’ experience with both residential and commercial design.
A Dunedin girl, she headed away to study for a Diploma of Interior Design in Christchurch, and then ‘‘fell headfirst into the industry’’.
‘‘I have a passion for it,’’ Robyn says of her interior-design career. ‘‘It’s a visual industry, and a people industry — you have to be able to work people out.’’
Working with clients, Robyn discovers what they love and need and translates it into a design direction that they can achieve. With her years of experience, she is able to come up with creative solutions while directing the project from conception through to completion.
‘‘There’s a lot of hard work, and networking,’’ Robyn says of the design industry. ‘‘It’s about keeping on top of your game, and providing the best solutions. I think it’s about creating a platform for the client, so it’s an empowerment thing.’’
Robyn has a particular passion for textiles, and is forever sourcing exotic fabrics and products for her interior schemes.
It’s the materiality of design work that really drives her passion for what she does.
‘‘Trends aside, it’s about bringing unique custom things to people,’’ Robyn says. ‘‘Cohesion is the most important thing. You can get a good sense of what we’re about in our store.’’
Robyn says that International Women’s Day is an important day on which to reflect.
‘‘It’s good to note it, and the significant females who make a difference,’’ she says.
