Singing with pride of wellpromoted musical event
I WOULD like to thank Denise Dore (Letters, 3.9.19) for her kind words expressing her appreciation of The Big Sing Finale organisation and the pleasure she experienced from the pupils’ singing.
These pupils represent the top 24 New Zealand secondary school choirs who have come through a rigorous adjudication process from their regional Big Sing competition in June.
The event ran over three days of eight adjudicated recital sessions, culminating in the gala concert on the Saturday night. I need to clarify that these were not auditions, as Denise referred to, but rather adjudicated performances.
I am sorry she missed out on attending the Friday events but it seems she contacted the DCC Events Centre for information rather than the Town Hall, which is run by Dunedin Venues Ltd, who would have been more helpful and able to provide the schedule of recitals.
The Big Sing Finale Gala concert and daily recital times were also advertised seven times in the Otago Daily Times and on its website over the past month. The entire finale was livestreamed and the recordings are still able to be heard on the NZ Choral Federation Facebook page.
The Big Sing Finale is the flagship of the NZCF. We are proud of the results these 650 fine young people produce which are worldclass, giving joy to the audience as they celebrate the art of choral singing.

Rabbit plague
RABBITS are the bane of my life. They are totally out of control and have completely trashed my garden.
It is a national tragedy that they have been allowed to spread to biblical proportions.
The ORC can waffle on but the only way we will eradicate this nationwide problem is for the scientists to come up with a carrotflavoured pellet which will sterilise the females. Science is the only way to go.
