Administrator wins national award
TRACEY Fleet’s last thought before entering a national administrator of the year award was: ‘‘You’ve got to be in it to win it’’.
The Cancer Society of New Zealand Otago and Southland Division events and community campaigns team leader initially harboured doubts about whether she should enter the Association of Administrative Professionals New Zealand (AAPNZ) administrative professional of the year award.
‘‘I think we sell ourselves short a lot of the time, and we don’t think our achievements are as good as what they are.
‘‘I wasn’t even considering putting in an application for it. But I’m very pleased I did.’’
Mrs Fleet won the award at an AAPNZ professional development forum in Dunedin recently.
She was one of three finalists — the other two were from Wellington.
‘‘We all had to go through an interview process and then give a speech during the conference, with the winner being announced that night at the conference dinner,’’ she said.
‘‘It was such an awesome surprise to be named as the winner, and something I’m very proud of.
‘‘While I am definitely not one to blow my own trumpet, I think it is really important for administrators that they feel that administration is a career.’’
Mrs Fleet was not the only local winner at the awards.
The AAPNZ Dunedin Group also won the membership growth award.
‘‘It is extremely exciting as well,’’ she said.
‘‘We are such a new group and to have won it last year when we first started out and then to get it this year as well, is a great achievement.’’
