Candidate for the

Otago Regional Council in the Dunedin Constituency area.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as ORC Councillor and seek re-election. I am an experienced Regional Councillor with a track record of active and effective governance. I chair Council’s Regulatory Committee, former chair of Technical Committee, accredited chair for RMA Hearings and chair of Council’s freshwater reference group.

My number one goal is to achieve good, sustainable water quality and flows throughout Otago’s waterways. While good progress has been made improving discharge water quality from point sources (eg industry), we still face significant challenges addressing non-point discharges (eg farms) to waterways and groundwater, particularly where land use has intensified. It is essential that we achieve ongoing improvements in: a. environmental practices such as riparian plantings, wetlands, fencing, water groups, farm plans, effluent management and grazing systems. b. regional water plans, including successful integration of new national policies and environmental standards, along with better clarification around rules. c. landowner accountability, including water

testing and regulatory enforcement.

The community needs certainty that the environment will be protected and landowners need certainty regards rules and implementation. Other priorities include climate change and adaptation, community liaison, biodiversity, pest plan, air quality, Leith flood scheme, transportation, urban development and an agreed plan for South Dunedin.

I am a professional Engineer, Project Manager, Director of Scott Projects and Scott Afforestation, member of NZ Alpine Club and former chair of George St Normal School. Born and raised a family in Otago, I am passionate about Otago’s future and sustainability.
