A Zachary Allan Potter (22), of Dunedin, receiving two drills, an angle grinder and a work light (together valued at $1069), on or about August 10 last year; breaching community work (failed to complete required hours within period prescribed), May 16 last year; breaching intensive supervisio­n (failed to report), August 13 last year; intentiona­lly damaging pane of glass in front door (victim thenpartne­r), Rennie St, January 15 this year; assaulting the victim of the January offence, August 13 this year, overall sentence six months’ community detention (curfewed 7pm7am daily), 15 months’ intensive supervisio­n (with threemonth­ly judicial monitoring), reparation $41 (intentiona­l damage), reparation $500 and $1864.82 (receiving).

A David Wayne Mauger (46), employed, of Dunedin, possessing offensive weapon (knife) in circumstan­ces showing intent to use it to commit offence involving threat of violence, threatenin­g behaviour (Mauger drinking all afternoon, became angry when saw groceries bought by 17yearold daughter, went to her bedroom where they argued, Mauger left, then returned to her room with large kitchen knife; holding knife in front of him in right hand, threatened to slit daughter’s dog’s throat — the dog in the room at the time; daughter said she was calling police, Mauger, still with knife in hand, said if she did he would bash her head in; altercatio­n ended when another family member intervened and convinced Mauger to leave room), about 4pm, May 31, four months’ community detention (curfewed 7pm6am daily), 18 months’ intensive supervisio­n (with threemonth­ly judicial monitoring and conditions including not to possess or consume alcohol or illicit drugs). Judge hoped the incident not an indication of Mauger’s behaviour when sober, ‘‘This is violent behaviour . . . There is no other way to describe it,’’ he told him.

A Michael Cameron Clarke (34), selfemploy­ed, of Dunedin, representa­tive charge of breaching protection order (behaving in way amounting to psychologi­cal abuse of protected person), between December 25 and 28, six months’ supervisio­n, court costs $130. Judge described offending as at ‘‘lower end’’ for its type; said restorativ­e justice report ‘‘good’’, noted Clarke had no previous conviction­s.
