Gasworks museum one of the best - patron
BRITISH Industrial heritage advocate Sir Neil Cossets is confident the momentum behind improvements at the Dunedin Gasworks Museum can be built up again.
"Its good to be back and to see the gasworks in such good health.
"Its my favourite place in Dunedin" he added yesterday.
Sir Neil of London, is the former chairman of English Heritage, and is patron of the Dunedin gasworks facility, promoting its !tents as one of the best gasworks museums in the world
He visited the museum again Yesterday with Dunedin City Council arts and ealtu re group manager Nick Dixon. other DCC senior staff and Heritage New Zealand staff member. Dunedin Gasworks Museum Trust member Ann Etarsby and Peter Petchey were also present.
The long running museum redevelopment project had been boosted by extensive restoration work undertaken by the DCC to the museum's heritage listed fitting shop. Carting in 2010. Mrs Barsby said. The restored shop had helped to host a series of community-linked activities and festivals, held later at the museum complex However it was 'disappointing" that some of the earlier moraenwm had been lost. The board had recently been 'brainstorming- ideas about the future and was keen to find some fu nd tr4- so a museum co-ordinator could be appointed. The museum was a "perfect space for community events and activities' The institution was also "focused on working with the DCC and the South Dunedin Icommunity to realise this potential and to create one of South Dunedin's Ma important and usab:e spaces.- she said
