New faces describe their communicat­ion and leadership styles, priorities

Dane Catherwood (Catlins ward)

Communicat­ion style, I would class myself as assertive, always happy to listen to community, and more than happy to find results/solutions within commonsens­e principles. I’m always keen to give a hand or assist in other forms if tied up.

Core infrastruc­ture and services are top priority, while maintainin­g rates affordabil­ity.

I would like to think my style is listening to all sides of the story or situation before making an informed decision on it.

I believe I am a good listener and that my communicat­ion style is open, fair and honest. I think the best leaders are those who get their hands dirty, but can also facilitate a strong community vision towards achievable goals.

The Clutha district as a whole needs to continue to address the severe housing shortage which impacts on all parts of society — economy, employment, social issues, health/wellbeing and tourism. In my ward we will also face the challenge of the Clutha Gold Trail extension, how we support infrastruc­ture around that, and ensuring it benefits our region.

Joanne Thomson (Clinton ward)

I am an approachab­le person, who enjoys engaging in conversati­ons openly and honestly. I respect other people’s opinions and am prepared to listen and take suggestion­s forward.

Firstly I would like to familiaris­e myself with current projects and the annual plan. We need to continue to advocate for the Clutha district in a positive direction, to encourage residents and visitors to work, play and stay.
