Grace Bertha Jackson (68), pensioner, of Mosgiel, drinkdrivi­ng, 222mg (driving Hyundai home from birthday party with brother, who as passenger became concerned she was driving at speed and almost veered off road, made her stop, took keys from ignition and he drove rest of way home, police called, found her on the kitchen floor of address; defence counsel Val Farrow said it had been a particular­ly stressful day and Jackson had drunk half a bottle of whisky at home before police arrived), August 17, Gladstone Rd, six months’ supervisio­n, $112 reparation, 28day disqualifi­cation, alcoholint­erlock licence to follow.

A Tyler Daisley (44), tattooist, of Dunedin, breach of protection order (phoned the victim to speak about incident from three years earlier, afterwards sent several abusive text messages to the woman), July 31, 15 months’ intensive supervisio­n.

A Kenneth Mcalpine Gray (62), of Dunedin, two counts of trespass (Gray was trespassed from New World supermarke­t in January, entered the car park nine times; defence counsel Pete Tuala said his client was going through rubbish bins looking for recyclable material, he did not think the car park was included in the trespass order, community magistrate Simon Heale said he was ‘‘the most recidivist trespasser I have ever encountere­d’’), August 23Septembe­r 20, 40 hours’ community work.

A Clayton Roland Anderson (25), shearer, of Hindon, careless driving (Anderson was sober driving after a rugby game, road was wet and there was thick lowlying fog, lost traction on a corner, hit ditch with force, crashed into fence, defendant walked to friend’s house and went to retrieve vehicle the next day; duty lawyer Chris Lynch said Anderson wrote off his mother’s car, worth $8000, police prosecutor Stewart Sluis said the man had ‘‘a very poor driving history’’), July 20, OutramMosg­iel Rd, $432 reparation.

A Roy John Nicolaou (35), mechanic, of Dunedin, careless driving, failing to stop (police saw him riding Yamaha dirt bike and followed, reached speeds of 80kmh, pursuit abandoned as he went through Brighton, located him soon after; defence counsel Deborah Henderson said the police pursuing her client were armed because of another incident they had attended: ‘‘he saw them with guns and decided to get out of the area’’), 9.50pm, December 28, Brighton Rd, fined $400, court costs $130, six months’ disqualifi­cation.

A Nathan James Hokianga (37), shed hand, of Milton, intentiona­l damage (Hokianga struck vehicle with a onemetre piece of rubber six times causing scuff marks, police saw incident and arrested defendant, he said he could not remember much because of his intoxicati­on), September 21, reparation $800.

A Connor Jobe Wilson (24), employed, of Balclutha, driving while disqualifi­ed (Wilson was banned from driving for eight months in January for drinkdrivi­ng, stopped by police and admitted he should not be behind wheel; duty lawyer Rochelle Crossman said he had no good reason), 3.50am, July 28, Clyde St, sixmonth disqualifi­cation, not to have interest in a vehicle for 12 months.

A Justin Charles Blair Lott (53), of Tapanui, Summary Offences Act assault (victim male, known to Lott), Balclutha, August 4 last year, sentence deferred 12 months, emotional harm reparation $300, court costs $130, witness expenses $50. Lott pleaded not guilty. Judge Crosbie found charge proved at hearing in August this year. Counsel Jo Turner described what occurred as ‘‘a push’’, said no medical attention required and there was ‘‘nothing further between the two since the incident’’.

A Eugene Benjamin Manuel (52), speaking threatenin­gly (charge from his behaviour towards female nurse, at nurses’ station, Wakari Hospital, while inpatient), about 9.45pm, June 23, sentence deferred six months. Judge noted Manuel still at the hospital.
