Time for Govt and councils to plan for our future
RIGHT now we are all affected by this Covid19 virus and some probably wonder how to fill each day.
We must take this opportunity to thank all health professionals, essential workers and farmers who are putting themselves at risk as they work each day helping others.
This lockdown is financially damaging and some large and smaller businesses are shutting their doors and several people are losing their jobs.
It is now time for the Government and local bodies to plan for a future which is less damaging for our businesses and those employing others.
Aaron Hawkins and the Dunedin city councillors and also Marion Hobbs and the Otago regional councillors must stop pushing ahead with expensive projects without listening to the people.
It is certainly not the time for councils to keep borrowing and spending huge amounts of money on unnecessary projects.
Scrub the plans for the Octagon, George St and the (cycle only) bridge.
Now is the time to plan for the immediate future and help our business people, workers and farmers to survive and flourish after this dreadful virus has been beaten and hopefully eradicated.
Just do the basics and put these unnecessary projects on hold until after the next local body elections.
Unfortunately, we can’t vote now but we can all have a say and tell the DCC and ORC councillors that they must support our businesses, workers and farmers.
This is definitely not the time for ‘‘fancy projects’’.
Ratepayers and residents don’t waste time — get busy and tell those in responsible positions what Dunedin and New Zealand needs now.

SEEMS we have a lot of people in New Zealand too dumb to be educated. Isn’t it about time police (government) education was stopped?
A more realistic approach needs to be taken to stop these potential Covid19 carriers holidaying in this lockdown period.
A big instant fine or instant lockup is needed. It is quickly becoming only a matter of time before law abiding citizens fearful for their family’s lives, take matters into their own hands. Come on police/government, start to carry out some much needed tough policing.
