Bauer closure leaves subscriptions unfulfilled
THANK you for your excellent editorial on the Bauer Media closure; the way it has been carried out is unbelievable.
Apart from missing the weekly high point of the delivery of the Listener, it and related magazine closures will result in another downturn in the income for New Zealand Post.
I will certainly miss the excellent articles and opinion pieces in the Listener pages, and the programmes and reviews were very helpful.
One omission in the statement of closure, and in your editorial, is what happens to the paidup subscriptions, in my case 50 forward copies, worth in total $156, more than $1 million for every 380 subscribers like me. Even until recent weeks, ‘‘pay ahead’’ was being actively canvassed. It being an overseas company, I surmise I have no redress with Bauer.
I hope that future governments will note how exposed we are by allowing overseas entities to buy up New Zealand companies.

Banking woes
TODAY I attempted to pay my
Westpac Platinum Mastercard account.
I rang the Westpac 0800 number to arrange to pay the account.
Because I don't do ‘‘online banking’’, I asked if I could write out a cheque and take it to the Mosgiel branch.
Their reply, ‘‘ No, the branch doors are closed.’’
My next question was, ‘‘Can I write out a cheque and post it to Westpac?’’ Their reply, ‘‘No, we are not opening mail and are not accepting cheques.’’
Is this Westpac banking customer service 2020?
