Clark not alone in bursting his lockdown bubble

-

IT’S a bit like watching bearbating. Poke him till he cries out. It also looks like the media have discovered a victim and, terrier like, are not ready to drop the headline. David Clark did the crime, he apologises abjectly, he's been reprimanded. Full stop.

He was not alone. In the first week of lockdown in which we were all getting attuned to what was meant by ‘‘bubble’’, there were many who drove down Aramoana Rd for a breath of fresh air while being unsure where the edge of our bubble was.

Once upon a time, myself and my companion viewed ‘‘our’’ space amorphously, indulging in a bit of bushwhacking and R’n’R from time to time both inside and outside the garden, up the hill, over the hill and at several beaches. We don't own a crib, but we do have one bubble at Aramoana, one in Port, one at Long Beach, Purakaunui, Doctors Point, Karitane. Surely we could do a day trip there if we kept to one car and distanced ourselves from several others we usually met.

We know know, thanks to David, that our larger sense of self has been cancelled for the course. We know that it is not on to travel to your crib.

We now ask ourselves if it’s all right to commute 500km between such bubbles for the sake of a better internet connection.

WHEN Ministers of the Crown blatantly flout the Covid19 ‘‘rules’’ how are the rest of us poor mortals supposed to react?

Shame on you David Clark

THIS pandemic and lockdown makes one appreciate the green spaces around us for both our physical and mental wellbeing. Here in Cromwell we are fortunate to have wonderful walkways, parks and a centrally located golf course for residents to enjoy. So why the council would even consider taking our golf course for housing really does belie common sense.
