To the point
WE have a new type of litter on our streets. Namely masks and disposable gloves. I can understand why some people use them but how hard is it to put them in a council bin when done with them? In my local supermarket car park, they are everywhere. To whom it concerns, shame on you.

THE term ‘‘Doc land’’ is used regularly in the media and more recently by our prime minister when announcing no hunting would be allowed on ‘‘Doc land’’ for the time being. The land doesn't belong to Department of Conservation bureaucrats. It is administered by Doc but belongs to the New Zealand public and should be referred to as public land.

THANK you, Alastair Watt (Letters, 25.4.20). You are right on the button with your world analysis. Point is: how can we ‘‘fix’’ the world?

WELL done, Messrs McLeod and Arnott (ODT, 23.4.20). Police states in the making will love your app. That’s how they will know at all times what the people do, where they are and be able to control them. One would have to be desperate for a drink, or stupid, to give a government the ability to be able to trace one’s movements.

YOUR political columnist Chris Trotter (Opinion, 24.4.20) claims that democracy and dictatorship are not opposites but are ‘‘curiously intertwined’’, and proposes an oxymoronic new category: a people's dictatorship. Perhaps he means a benign dictatorship?
