Mandela’s daughter dies

Johannesbu­rg: Zindzi Mandela, South Africa’s ambassador to Denmark and daughter of antiaparth­eid leaders Nelson and Winnie, has died in

Johannesbu­rg at the age of 59.

The South African Broadcasti­ng Corporatio­n reported she died early yesterday in a Johannesbu­rg hospital.

Zindzi Mandela came to internatio­nal prominence in

1985, when the white minority government offered to release Nelson from prison if he denounced antiaparth­eid violence by his Africa National Congress movement.

She read his letter rejecting the offer at a packed public meeting which was broadcast around the world.

American Kelly Preston has died of breast cancer, aged 57.

The actress, who went to school in Adelaide, had had the disease for two years.

Preston, whose films included

Jerry Maguire and Twins ,is survived by her actor husband John Travolta and children Ella (20), and son Benjamin (9).

The couple’s son Jett died at age 16 in January 2009.

Benjamin Keough, son of actress Lisa Marie Presley and the lookalike grandson of Elvis Presley, has died at 27.

Lisa Marie Presley’s manager Roger Widynowski confirmed the death.

Keough’s father is singersong­writer Danny Keough and his sister is singer Riley Keough.

American media reported Keough died from a selfinflic­ted gunshot wound in Calabasas, California. — AAP/TCA
