Cricket prospects bright

THE king of all summer pastimes, cricket, is with us once again, and prospects are bright for a successful season. If the local enthusiast­s can only convince the general sporting public that the good old game is worth following and supporting, Otago will take its place this year in the front rank of a clean and manly sport. To ensure success public sympathy must attend any form of recreation, so it behoves all presentday willowwiel­ders to do their utmost to put the standard of Otago cricket on a par with prewar days. Practicall­y all the

local clubs have had their annual meetings, and marked keenness and enthusiasm has been the order of the day. The local governing body, the Otago Cricket Associatio­n, held its annual meeting last Monday evening, and by all appearance­s it was one of the most successful and spirited meetings held of recent years. This augurs well indeed for the coming season. The Otago Cricket Associatio­n has been a very dormant body for a few seasons past, but judging by the new and young blood elected to this year’s executive committee, the insomnia contracted should be well shaken off. — By Straight Bat
