Questions over decision to bar foreign yachties

WHILE noone wants Covid19 in the country, it is hard to conceive why yachties from the Pacific Islands are barred entry.

The recent German arrivals, who are being detained and threatened with deportation, came 4000km over two and ahalf months — clearly they could not bring Covid19 to New Zealand.

It would not be necessary but such yachties could even spend two weeks in isolation on their boats without cost to the New Zealand taxpayer.

They would bring welcome business; from refits to internal tourism, while they spend the summer here. Why is this Government not waking each morning and saying ‘‘what can we safely allow?’’.
