Horse manure

-

THANK you, Bruce Spittle (Letters, 23.9.20). I have always steered gardeners away from buying roadside bags of horse manure, saying unless you compost it for several years, in its own area, it is like buying a mystery bag of weeds for your garden.

My reasoning was that horses only have one stomach and are not ruminants like cows with several. The difference is grass and weed seed pass through a horse intact where as cow manure has little or no active seed in it.

I now have another string to that bow — thanks again.
