Southerners in the medals
WRESTLING
SOUTHERN wrestlers were among the medals in Mosgiel over the weekend.
Twentyfour competitors from the region claimed topthree placings in their grades at the national championships, held at Taieri College on Friday and Saturday.
Host club Taieri claimed three national titles, as well as seven other medals, while also winning the Brian and Rosemary Isaac Trophy for most points overall in the female divisions.
Olivia Jenkins, Jay Forgie and Max Cross all claimed golds for the club.
Dunedinbased Combat Sports School also won a pair of trophies and a swag of medals.
Joe Dobson won the Aichi 7th Asia Oceania Wrestling Cup Greco Roman trophy, and a pair of gold medals.
Sam Harrison, who claimed a gold, won the Lloyd Woods Trophy for most scientific junior.
Caleb Steven, Jayda Booth, Conor Middleton and Hunter Steven also won gold medals.
Gore’s Southern Spartans also claimed a national title through Taylah Friend.
