Assault near synagogue

Berlin: German police yesterday arrested a man who attacked a Jewish citizen with a shovel as the Jewish community celebrated Sukkoth.

The assault in Hamburg took place nearly one year after a farright gunman attacked a synagogue in Halle on Yom Kippur.

A police spokesman said the 29yearold attacker seemed to have acted alone and the motive was unclear.

The 29yearold victim suffered serious head injuries. — Reuters
