Aide’s colourful uniform
A distinctive patch of colour in the Viceregal retinue yesterday was the bright uniform of the 11th Hussars, worn by the aidedecamp in waiting
(says the Dominion). This uniform consists of blue jacket with gold facings and braids, claretcoloured breeches with a double yellow cavalry stripe, and a claretcoloured cap. This is the undress uniform, the timehonoured busby being worn only on special state occasions. The last Hussar to be on the retinue of a GovernorGeneral of New Zealand was Captain Gage Williams, Earl Liverpool’s aides being New Zealand officers, wearing the field uniform.
