Bridge at full capacity
Auckland: The Auckland Harbour Bridge was restored to 100% capacity last night with all eight lanes operating.
The bridge was left severely damaged after a wind gust of more than 120kmh blew a truck over, which damaged a loadbearing strut on the bridge on September 17.
Five lanes will be devoted to southbound traffic during this morning’s travel peak.
A permanent replacement for the strut was successfully installed on Saturday night.
‘‘The new strut is performing well, and there has been no other damage to other parts of the bridge.
‘‘That means the bridge can now function with all eight lanes,’’ a NZ Transport Agency spokesman said. — RNZ
