Fatal crash driver denies charge

THE driver of a vehicle which hurtled about 50m down a steep bank in Macetown in January, killing his passenger, has denied a charge of careless driving causing death.

Olivia Cait Brown (22), of Lake Hayes, died on January 30 when the vehicle she was a passenger in left the remote 4WD track shortly after noon.

The driver, Campbell Thomas Klubein Page (24), landscape gardener, of Fendalton, Christchurch, sustained moderate injuries.

The charge he faces, laid under the Land Transport Act 1988, carries a maximum penalty of three months’ imprisonment or a $4500 fine.

The case will be reviewed next month.
