Centenarian launches podcast

-

LONDON: Britain’s 100yearold charity hero Captain Sir Tom Moore has become a podcaster with the launch of a series to tackle isolation among older people, a corporate sponsor said yesterday.

The podcast, called The Originals, was part of a campaign by charity Age UK and Cadbury’s that aimed to inspire people to have a meaningful conversation with an older person, a Cadbury’s statement said, noting that social isolation had worsened during the Covid19 crisis.

It is the latest venture for the World War 2 veteran who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for raising millions of pounds for the health service by walking laps of his garden during lockdown this year.

He also broke two Guinness world records, scored a No 1 single, wrote a book and has signed a deal to film a biopic of his life.

His interviewees include Winston Garvey (83), a bodybuilder who still lifts weights, and Rose KnoxPeebles (79), a writer and art collector, who reveals a kiss with Elvis Presley. — Reuters
