Brayden James Wilson (24), truck driver, of Benhar, careless driving causing injury, failing to stop after an accident (Wilson had stopped at traffic lights, when signal turned green he turned right without giving way to oncoming traffic, collided with victim's vehicle in middle of intersecti­on, she suffered swollen wrists and sore chest, Wilson reversed back from crash scene and drove away, handed himself into police station more than two hours later after socialisin­g at bars; court heard the offending came on back of his relationsh­ip breakdown), 12.20am, July 12, Princes St, 80 hours' community work, 12 months' disqualifi­cation (to begin in January), $1000 reparation.

Jedekiah Edward DobieCurra­n (30), beneficiar­y, of Milton, intentiona­l damage (smashed the windscreen of his mother's car with a coffee cup after she brought him the wrong car part for vehicle on which he was working), January 20; driving while suspended, dangerous driving, aggravated failing to stop for police (DobieCurra­n was driving black motorcycle in Balclutha, police indicated for him to stop, defendant paused briefly but took off, passed through stop sign, failed to give way at intersecti­on, exceeded 100kmh in 50kmh zone, DobieCurra­n was stopped by police while performing Uturn; Judge Turner noted 10 pages of criminal history), 2pm, April 15, Frances St, three months' community detention, two years disqualifi­cation (to begin in April).

Tanae Marcus Vince, aka Edge (25), of Dunedin, strangulat­ion, threatenin­g to kill, intentiona­l damage, assault in a family relationsh­ip (Vince argued with girlfriend of four years about finances, punched cupboard, went to bedroom followed by victim, defendant pushed her to floor, strangled her, victim said she could not breathe, “good, I'm going to kill you,” Vince said, punched the woman in arms and chest, defendant left house, used boots to cause dint in victim's car; Judge Turner said: “you were exercising your dominance over your partner to show her you could control her”), July 14, nine months' home detention, protection order issued in favour of the victim.

Duncan John McKenzie (34), cleaner, of Dunedin, breach of community work (McKenzie was sentenced to 150 hours' community work for failing to answer District Court bail and assaulting a child, only completed 10 hours of the sentence), July 8, one month home detention, community work sentence cancelled.
