Police seek Audi

POLICE spent much of yesterday pursuing a driver up and down State Highway 1 between Dunedin and Oamaru, after he failed to stop for officers.

Police attempted to stop a blue Audi A4 sedan about 11am on Dunedin’s Northern Motorway, ‘‘due to its manner of driving’’, a spokeswoman said.

However, the driver failed to stop and police pursued.

She said the pursuit was ‘‘almost immediately’’ abandoned because of the dangerous actions of the driver.

In another attempt to stop the vehicle, road spikes were deployed but failed.

Police spent several hours searching for the vehicle, which was seen at various points along SH1 between Dunedin and Oamaru throughout the day.

She said inquiries were continuing.
